Kids At Central

At Central Lutheran, we believe that the Kids At Central are an important part of our community.

In baptismal promises the parents and congregation promise to nurture our children’s faith by living with them among God’s faithful people, bringing them to the word of God and the holy supper, teaching them Jesus’ Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments, and placing in their hands the holy scriptures. We do this in hopes that Kids At Central learn to trust God, proclaim Christ through word and deed, care for others and the world God made, and work for justice and peace. (Evangelical Lutheran Book of Worship, 228)

With a team of dedicated volunteers we do our best to follow through with these promises and work to ensure that faith formation and fun are combined in the many activities we offer for our younger members. You can read more about our programs below. Please also check out the worship and music page for some ideas about helping your kids have a great worship experience.

Mission

The mission of Central’s children/youth ministries is to nurture and help Central’s kids to grow in faith and in their relationship with God, one another, and all creation, so that they may engage fully in the life, mission, and ministry of the church.

Sunday School @ Central

Our Sunday School is divided up into four age groups with 2 types of curriculum structures: 1) The Potters (Age 3) The Fishers (Kindergarten) and Weavers (1st & 2nd GradeClassrooms use Godly Play. A Montessori based way of teaching God’s Word, Godly Play invites children to “wonder” about Biblical. 2) Our Carpenters (3rd Grade through 6th GradeClassroom explores the Bible through Feasting on the Word. It is a lectionary-based curriculum that helps older children connect what they learn in the classroom to what they see in worship. All of our children are welcome in worship and are encouraged to participate in the sacred ritual.

Confirmation @ Central

Central Lutheran Church has the pleasure of Affirming the Baptism of two of our Confirmands on October 25th 2015 during Worship. Due to community needs we anticipate picking up with the regularly scheduled confirmation program in 2016-2017.We appreciate the patience of all families this affects.

If you are interested in joining future confirmation classes, please contact Central's Coordinator of Intergenerational Ministries.

Youth @ Central

With so many things going on in the lives of teenagers these days we’re trying a new way to engage our teenage members in the life and the work of the church. (Or maybe an old way if you go back far enough.) Instead of a weekly leader, videos and discussions in the church basement we’re inviting our teenagers to participate in the faith formation of our youngest members from Age 3-2nd Grade by volunteering in our Godly Play Classrooms as “Door People.” They will assist the storytellers by helping the kids in each room process the story of the day.

We are also inviting our teens to share their Godly Play experience with the “older” Sunday School members at Café Central on the final Sunday of every month in the Main Parish Hall. The teens have the opportunity to bridge the gap between our younger families and those that have been around for a while. Participation, conversation, and reflection are the hopes of this experiment.

If you would like to register or learn more about our Youth Group at Central Lutheran, please contact Central's Coordinator of Intergenerational Ministries.
